Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN PARO

Step into the kingdom of Bhutan, where ancient traditions continue to shape everyday life. After your arrival, visit the historic National Museum of Bhutan, home to an extraordinary collection of sacred relics, traditional textiles and centuries of Bhutanese heritage. Continue to the mmajestic Rinpung Dzong, an impressive fortress- monastery standing gracefully above the Paro River, before settling into the peaceful atmosphere of the valley.

Day 2: Tiger’s Nest

Today’s adventure leads to the legendary Paro Taktshang, one of the world’s most extraordinary monasteries. The trail ascends through towering pine forests scented with incense like cedar, gradually revealing dramatic views of the valley below. Perched impossibly on a place where history, devotion and nature existed in perfect harmony.

Day 3: Genekha to Gur

Distance: 4km | Duration: 3-4 hours | Elevation gain: 500m | Camp altitude: 3,350m The day opens with an early drive to Genekha, a quiet village resting at 2,850m, steeped in traditional Bhutanese charm. From here, the trek begins gently — crossing a scenic suspension bridge over a clear, bubbling river before climbing steadily through forested hills alive with birdsong and rustling leaves. Along the way, rhododendrons and primulas add splashes of color to the greenery. Nearing Gur, the trees thin into a high alpine meadow ringed by whispering pines. Camp is set at 3,350m, where solitude, crisp mountain air, and a sky full of stars bring the day to a peaceful close.

Day 4: Gur to Labatama

Distance: 14km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Elevation gain: 930m | Camp altitude: 4,280m Today’s hike stretches longer and pushes harder than before, but the changing scenery makes it worthwhile. The forest gives way to wide alpine meadows, fragrant with grass and occasionally dotted with yaks grazing in the open. From there, a steady climb takes you up to Pagalabtsa La Pass at 4,170m, the terrain growing rockier and more rugged with every step higher. Once at the top, the reward is a dramatic view — the Dagala range spreads out in front of you, its sharp peaks and shining ridgelines stretching as far as the eye can see. Heading down from the pass, you enter an untouched valley scattered with small lakes, finally arriving at a quiet campsite beside Labatama Lake, sitting at 4,280m. The lake’s calm surface mirrors the surrounding mountains, offering a tranquil close to the day’s trek.

Day 5: Labatama

Camp altitude: 4,280m Today is set aside for discovering Labatama, one of the true highlights of the trek. This high-altitude wilderness is scattered with pristine lakes, their crystal waters catching and scattering the sunlight like scattered jewels. Depending on your energy, you can wander to the foot of Jomo Peak or push a little higher for sweeping views over the valleys and distant summits beyond. Let the day unfold slowly, soaking in the stillness of this untouched corner of the mountains. Here, silence reigns — broken only by an occasional birdcall or the faint chime of bells from yaks grazing nearby. It’s a rare chance to simply rest, reflect, and feel truly at one with nature.

Day 6: Labata to Pangkha

Distance: 10km | Duration: 4-5 hours | Elevation change: 300m descent | Camp altitude: 3,980m The descent starts easy, weaving through a patchwork of high-altitude grasslands and past the humble stone huts of yak herders — small windows into the lives of the nomadic families who call these mountains home. As the trail curves through the valleys below, the Himalayas reveal themselves in full grandeur. On clear days, the distant snow-capped peaks of Nepal and Bhutan seem to hover on the horizon, a breathtaking contrast to the green slopes closer at hand. By the time you reach Pangkha, a quiet campsite wrapped in rugged, untamed beauty awaits — the perfect place to pause and take it all in

Day 7: Pangkha to Tsokam

Distance:10 km | Duration 5–6 hours | Elevation change: 350m descent | Camp altitude 3830 Leaving Pangkha, the trail rises steadily through slopes cloaked in rhododendron, leading you to Tale La Pass at 4,180m — the final high point of the trek. From here, the Dagala range unfolds behind you one last time before the path begins its long turn downhill. The descent stretches out gently but steadily, passing through shifting bands of vegetation as juniper and rhododendron slowly give way to deeper forests of fir and spruce. The trail remains well-defined, though rocky and uneven patches call for careful footing along the way. By afternoon, you arrive at the camp in Tsokam, a peaceful setting beside a dried-up lakebed, offering a calm resting point as the trek nears its end.

Day 8: Tshokam to Chamgang

Distance:11km | Duration 5–6 hours | Elevation change: 1190m descent | end point 2640m Your last day on the trail opens with an easy, gradual descent, settling you into an unhurried pace after the earlier climbs. The path leads through thick woodland and terraced fields, with the valleys below occasionally coming into view through the trees. As you draw closer to Chamgang, the trail grows steeper, threading through forests of oak and rhododendron before finally opening out at the village edge. Chamgang marks the end of the trek — the point where Bhutan’s high alpine wilderness gives way back to everyday comforts. A vehicle will be waiting to drive you to Thimphu, where a hot shower and a warm hotel bed await after days on the mountain.

Day 9: Thimphu

Spend the day exploring Bhutan’s Capital, where tradition and modern life blend effortlessly. Buddhist architecture, browse local handicraft shops and experience the city’s unique atmosphere before driving back to Paro for your final night.
