EASTERN BHUTAN TOUR: 14 NIGHTS 15 DAYS

Day 1: Welcome to the Kingdom of Bhutan

Arrive at Paro International Aiirport, where your Bhutan journey begins amidst breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Meet your guide and transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital city. Spend the afternoon exploring the city’s unique blend of tradition and modern life, strolling through its lively streets.

Day 2: Explore Thimphu

Begin the day with a visit to the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world, overlooking the Thimphu Valley. From here, enjoy a scenic hike to Changangkha Lhakhang or opt for the easier Wangditse trail, both offering beautiful views of the valley below. In the afternoon, visit the Takin Preserve Centre, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal, followed by Zilukha Nunnery, a peaceful retreat for Buddhist nuns. Day 3: Thimphu- Punakha

After breakfast, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass, where 108 chortens and prayer flags mark one of Bhutan’s best viewpoints, with clear-day Himalayan views. Continue to Punakha for lunch at a local restaurant, then visit chimi Lhakhang, the famous fertility temple linked to Lam Drukpa Kuenley. Set among rice fields, it is a peaceful and culturally rich stop. Next, explore Punakha Dzong, a striking fortress at the meeting point of the Pho chu and Mo chu rivers. Known for its elegant architecture and historic importance, it is one of Bhutan’s finest landmarks. Later, walk across the longest suspension bridge over the Pho chu river. Afterward, check in to hotel and enjoy an overnight stay in Punakha.

Day 4: Punakha- Gantey

Begin the morning with short hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, one of the Bhutan’s most beautiful hilltop Chorten, where spectacular 360-degree views of the Punakha Valley, river systems and surrounding mountains await. After the hike, continue your journey towards the serene Phobjikha Valley, the route gradually ascends through forests and mountain roads, crossing Lawala Pass, which marks the entrance to the Phobjikha region. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before visiting Gangtey Monastery, a prominent Nyingma Buddhist monastery and one of the most significant religious institutions in central Bhutan. Later, explore Phobjikha Valley, a broad glacial valley known for its traditional villages and rich cultural heritage. Day 5: Phobjikha-Bumthang

Today’s drive takes you through the heart of Bhutan toward Bumthang, often regarded as the country’s spiritual centre. En route, visit the impressive Trongsa Dzong, perched above a deep gorge and once the seat of power for Bhutan’s royal ancestors. Also visit the historic Trongsa Watchtower, which now houses a fascinating museum dedicated to Bhutan’s monarchy and history. Continue toward Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 6: Bumthang Cultural Exploration

Explore some of Bhutan’s most sacred sites beginning with Kurje Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpooche left his body imprint. Continue to Jamba Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan and a significant centre of Buddhist worship Visit Tang Nunnery before continuing to Mebartsho, the sacred burning lake associated with the great treasure revealer Pema Lingpa. Day 7: Tang Valley excursion

After breakfast, drive to the picturesque Tang Valley, one of Bumthang’s most beautiful land culturally rich regions. Enjoy a scenic hike through traditional villages, open landscapes and peaceful; countryside, offering a glimpse into the daily life of local communities and the timeless chame of rural Bhutan. Visit Ugyen Cholling Palace, a restored manor house that offers insight into the lifestyle of Bhutanese nibility and rural life of earlier centuries. Overnight in Bumthang

Day 8: Entering Eastern Bhutan- Mongar

Todays journey takes you deeper into eastern Bhutan. Stop in the picturesque Ura Valley. Later, ppause at Namling waterfall near Sengor before arriving in Mongar, a lively hillside town that serves as an important centre of eastern Bhutan Overnight in mongar

Day 9: Mongar-Trashigang

Continue to Trashigang, the largest district in the eastern Bhutan and cultural crossroads of the region. Upon arrival, visit Rangjung Woesel Choling Monastery, an important centre of Buddhist learning and practice. Later, explore the commanding Trashigang Dzong, strategically positioned above the Drangme Chu river and long regarded as the administrative heart of eastern Bhutan. Overnight in Trashigang

Day 10: ; Excursion to sakteng

Travel to the remote settlement of sakteng, home to the semi-nomadic Brokpa community. This isolated region preserves a distinctive cultural identity. Sakteng offers a rare opportunity to experience traditions that have remained largely unchanged for generation. Spend the day exploring the village, walking through its narrow lanes lined with traditional homes and observing the daily lives of local families. Visit the village monastery and learn about the customs, folklore and spiritual practices that shape the community’s identity. Day 11: Return to Bumthang

After breakfast, begin the journey back toward Bumthang, retracing the route through the eastern districts of Bhutan. The drive offers ever-changing landscapes, from rolling hills and remote settlements to broad valleys and high mountain passes. As you travel westward, witness the gradual transition from eastern Bhutan’s distinctive cultural landscapes to the spiritual heartland of the kingdom. Arrive in Bumthang by evening and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this historic valley, known for its deep spiritual significance and timeless rural charm.

Day 12: BUMTHANG-PUNAKHA

Depart Bumthang and journey toward the warmer valley of Punakha. The route passes through some of Bhutan’s most scenic regions, crossing mountain passes and traversing diverse landscapes that connect central and western Bhutan. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of valleys, rivers, and traditional settlements scattered across the countryside. Arrive in Punakha, a valley renowned for its mild climate, fertile farmlands, and rich history. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

Day 13: PUNAKHA-PARO

Return to Paro and visit Paro Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most iconic fortress-monasteries and an outstanding example of traditional craftsmanship. Overnight in Paro

Day 14: TIGER NEST HIKE

Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery After breakfast, embark on a memorable hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktshnag) Bhutan’s most sacred landmark, dramatically perched on a cliff face approx. 900 meters above the Paro Valley, the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan kingdom. The hike takes you through beautiful pine forests and provides an opportunity to experience Bhutan’s spiritual heritage and natural beauty. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this sacred site on the back of a tigress and meditated here. After exploring the monastery and enjoying the spectacular scenery, hike back to the base and return to the hotel. Return to the hotel

Day 15: DEPARTURE

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. Your journey concludes here, carrying with it the spirit of Bhutan and experiences to cherish for years to come.
