Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN PARO
Touch down in one of the world’s most spectacular, mountain airports before stepping into Bhutan’s timeless charm. Begin your journey with a visit to the magnificent Paro Dzong, an architectural masterpiece overlooking the valley, followed by the National Museum, where centuries of Bhutanese history, culture and artistry come vividly to life. Day 2: Tiger’s Nest hike
Answer the call of Bhutan’s most iconic landmark with a rewarding hike to the legendary tiger’s Nest Monastery. Clinging to a sheer cliff face, this sacred sanctuary offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable spiritual atmosphere. Descend down to Paro valley and wander through the charming streets and cafes of Paro town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 3: Paro-Shana Zampa- Thangthangkha (22km, 1.5 hr drive, 6-8 hrs hike)
After a short drive to Shana Zampa (2800masl) the true Himalayan adventure begins. Follow the lively Paro Chhu upstream as the trail meanders through lush conifer forests, wooden bridges and scattered mountain settlements. Gradually gaining elevation, arrive at the peaceful campsite of Thangthangkha (3600masl), surrounded by towering peaks.
Day 4: Thangthangkha-Jangothang Base Camp (17km, 4-6 hrs)
Today’s trail climbs above the tree line into expansive alpine meadows where yaks graze beneath towering snow-capped peaks. As the valley widens, the magnificent north face of Mount Jomolhari rises dramatically before you. Arrive at spectacular base camps in the Himalayas, also blessed with panoramic views of Jichu Drake. Day 5: JANGOTHANG- ACCLIMATIZATION AMONG THE GIANTS
Allow your body to adjust to the altitude while your spirit absorbs the grandeur of the Himalayas. Optional hikes lead to the foot of Mount Jomolhari, offering unforgettable vistas and opportunities to observe blue sheep roaming the surrounding cliffs. A day to breathe, explore and embrace the silence of the high mountains. Overnight at campsite
Day 6: JANGOTHANG-LINGSHI (17KM, 6-7 HRS)
Ascend steadily towards the windswept Nyele-La Pass (4700masl), where sweeping Himalayan panoramas sstretch beyond the horizon. Descend into the board valley of Lingshi (4000masl), home to an ancient hilltop dzong and traditional yak-herding communities. Overnight at Campsite
Day 7: LINGSHI-SHODU (7-8 HRS)
Today presents the trek’s greatest challenge and greatest reward. Climb to the lofty Yale-La Pass (4950masl), the highest point of the journey, where endless mountain ridges unfold in every direction. Descend to riverside campsite at Shodu. Overnight at campsite
Day 8: SHODU-BARSHONG (14KM, 4-5 HRS)
The trail follows the sparkling Thimphu chhu through dramatic limestone gorges, moss-covered forests and hidden meditation caves once used by Buddhist masters. A gentle climb leads to the peaceful campsite of Barshong Overnight at campsite
Day 9: BARSHONG-DOLAM KENCHO (6HRS)
Continue through alpine meadows, bamboo groves and quiet forests while crossing mountain streams fed by crystal-clear glaciers. Gentle ascents and descents create a rewarding day immersed in Bhutan’s untouched wilderness. Overnight campsite
Day 10: DOLAM KENCHO-DODENA-THIMPHU (3 HRS TREKING)
Complete the final stretch of your Himalayan expedition as the trail descends toward Dodena, passing near the sacred Cheri Monastery. Meet your awaiting vehicle before enjoying a scenic one hour drive into Bhutan’s charming capital, Thimphu. Overnight Thimphu
Day 11: EXPLORE THIMPHU AND BACK TO PARO
Spend the morning exploring Bhutan’s vibrant capital, beginning with the majestic Buddha Dordenma overlooking the valley and a visit to the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal. Later, enjoy a scenic drive back to Paro, where your Himalayan journey began. Overnight in Paro
Day 12: FEARWELL, BHUTAN
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport carrying unforgettable memories of soaring peaks, sacred monasteries and trails that few have the privilege to walk. Until next time.
